JoKamala Manju Kesavn — VISA - Director of Engineering

I have over 20 years of experience in enterprise software implementation and am currently serving as the Director of Engineering at Visa, where I oversee the development and implementation of the Visa Tokenization Service and the transformation journey of AI. My unique ability to bridge business strategy with technology and foster innovation and change through continuous improvement has allowed me to successfully lead global (India, US, Europe, China) technology teams in both waterfall and agile software development environments. I hold a Master of Science in Cloud Computing Architecture from the University of Maryland, Master of Computer Science from Madurai Kamaraj University, India, a Postgraduate Certificate in Management from the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, and am certified in Agile practices (PMI-ACP), Scrum (CSM), and DevOps. My expertise spans across digital transformation, software engineering, program delivery, product management, testing automation, change management, and more. 

 

As the Director of Engineering for Visa Tokenization, I oversee the development, implementation, and continuous enhancement of the Visa Tokenization Service, ensuring it remains secure, efficient, and effective. Since its debut, Visa has issued more than 4 billion tokens, and more than 13,000 merchants have adopted the technology, I lead a team of engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning, and manage the budget to ensure cost-effective use of resources for this team. Additionally, I collaborate with internal teams for integration, maintain compliance with security standards, and implement talent management strategies for our engineering talent 

 

As a Director of Engineering in Michaels (art and craft store) Technology center, I spearheaded the technical integration of various Michaels products to be sold on platforms like Target ,Walmart and amazon ensuring seamless data synchronization and efficient ordering. Through which $10M new incremental revenue generated within first year. I was also responsible for supervising the development of analytics tools to extract insights from marketplace data, which assisted in strategic decision-making. Moreover, I ensured that Order Management systems were scalable and secure enough to handle increased traffic and transactions from these marketplaces and also during holiday peak. I have received recognition from CEO for implementing the most innovative solutions in the company. 

 

As the Engineering Leader at Macy’s Atlanta (2016-2022), I orchestrated the re-platforming of the $10 billion revenue generating order management system on Google Cloud. Due to this Macy’s launched its online marketplace in September 2022, adding 400 new brands in 20 categories to its product assortment. Now, Macy’s offers approximately 1,350 brands on the platform and grew its gross merchandise value by over 116% from Q1 2023. 

This success has led Macy’s to soft-launch Bloomingdale’s Marketplace this past July. Additionally, I mentored 15 engineers and 4 managers, resulting in a 20% performance boost and multiple promotions. Over a specific period, 70% of my team advanced in their positions. Our achievements, including the successful cloud migration, were recognized with an award for the highest-performing team. 

 

As Sr. Manager in India (2013-2016), I led a dynamic team, and Successfully achieved on-time delivery of high-quality projects which helped For the quarter ended June 30, 2016, the Company reported record second quarter revenue of $245.7 million, up 21% compared to second quarter 2015 revenue of $202.7 million. Managed a diverse team of 15, ensuring smooth product releases. Developed a quality management framework focusing on customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, employee development, and business growth. Oversaw all software quality engineering activities, including test planning, automation, usability analysis, and defect reporting. In my leadership role, I coached 4 managers and expanded teams, with three managers leading multiple scrum teams, showcasing a 50% improvement in their leadership capacity. . 

 

In the initial few years of my career starting from 2001 to 2012 I have served as a Lead Engineer/Sr Engineer and a Java/.Net developer in companies like Yahoo , AOL, Mcafee where I worked to develop consumer websites like Yahoo.com, AOL.com and Mcafee.com. 

Over the past two decades, I have consistently performed at the fullest extent of my role. Each day, I have challenged myself and collaborated with multiple individuals across teams, across Organizations resulting in ongoing success.
